Rabbit road kill (GRAPHIC)

As I was driving to ballet, right by my house there was road kill in the middle of the road and looked out the window and saw it was a rabbit. I would say bunny but it was way to big to be a bunny. I’ve never seen such a large rabbit alive let alone dead. So after ballet my dad and I decided to go check it out because even though its body was smashed, the head looked pretty decent and I’ve always wanted to find a rabbit skull. Here’s what my dad and I found:

I’ll admit that the guts were gross, but I can stomach that (haha get it, the stomach was all over the road. Oh me and my bad humor ;)) and it didn’t smell. The head looked great but it was late at night and if I moved it more guts would spill out and I might get bloody. I figured I’ll find another rabbit some day, or I’ll just get a cat and maybe it can go out and kill a rabbit for me. It’ll probably be mostly gone tomorrow since its so close to the forest preserve, a coyote or raccoon will find it. Or animal control will. Oh well! I’m going to bone hunting with a family friend this weekend who thought it was cool that I collected bones so I’ll have pictures from that!

Hannah update

Yesterday my mom and I went to check out Hannah (what’s left of her) because its supposed to rain this weekend. Her spine is doing very well.

We moved the spine over so it could dry out better. Since its supposed to rain this weekend I’m not too sure how that’ll work out. She still smelled putrid, the smell won’t go away for a long while. It was a short visit but hopefully before it snows we can get something out of it!

Bone hunting 10/28

A few days ago Leah and I decided to go bone hunting, we were originally going to go dig up near where we found the cow spine, but we were lazy so we went near Hannah. We went in some wooded area near where Hannah was buried to try and find her skull but we didn’t even find any bones. But we found a lot of burrs, plants that stick to EVERYTHING. My thick pants are all covered in them. After that we decided to go over to where Hannah was and the only thing that’s really left of her is her spine, and it’s seriously stuck in the ground. The 3 legs that were there are gone, I only found one leg about 70 feet away (I suck at math so this might be a lot different). Down below is her leg

We also found 2 random bones that definitely don’t belong to Hannah. They’re old and no skin whatsoever on it.

After we came out of the woods Leah found a dead snake. We thought it was alive so I threw some rocks at it, but I have horrible aim so 3 out of the 4 rocks I threw missed. Once the 4th one hit the snake and it didn’t move we decided it was dead and Leah wanted it because snake is all spine and she thought it was cool.

And that’s what we found! After that we carved pumpkins for Halloween. 🙂
